In fact, the wig is made of human hair or synthetic hair. If it is not cleaned properly, it will indeed retain some strange smells. Especially for beginners who just started wearing wigs, they don’t know how to clean the wig. So in order not to let yourself experience such embarrassment again, and to keep your wig comfortable and odor-free, here are some tips that I hope can help you.
1.Clean
Regular cleaning of your wig is essential to eliminate odors. How often you clean your wig depends on how you use it, your lifestyle, and a few other factors. If you are often exposed to dust, smoke, and other odors while wearing a wig, or if you often wear a wig for exercise and your scalp is prone to sweating, etc., then the wig will accumulate a lot of these dust odors. If that’s the case, you’d better wash your wig every day.

2.Dry
Wigs are best kept dry at all times. Damp hair or excessive humidity can produce odors, so after washing the wig, it is best to dry it in a ventilated and cool place. Do not expose to the sun, it is easy to damage the wig.
3.Save
After the wig is not worn, it should be thoroughly cleaned and stored in the box when it is completely dry. If only temporarily removed and re-applied regularly, the wig should also be placed in a place that is free of unpleasant odors and ventilated. Don’t put wigs in bathrooms, kitchens, etc., and don’t expose them to the sun.
4.Dryer sheet
After a few weeks or months of use, wigs slowly lose their fresh smell and start to accumulate bad smells. So when cleaning wigs, you can use some good-smelling shampoo and conditioner. Not only will this make your wig softer, but it will also smell better. If odors persist, use a strong absorbent dryer sheet to eliminate these unwanted odors. Because the dry sheet effectively and gently removes dirt particles and sebum build-up. It’s a temporary fix, but it removes odors in a short amount of time, and in less than a minute you can quickly and effectively get rid of the odor and give yourself a fresh wig.
5.Baking soda
Baking soda is without a doubt the best household item for eliminating all kinds of odors. It effectively absorbs and neutralizes unpleasant odors, especially when it comes to synthetic hair. Baking soda can effectively remove the odor in wigs. Dilute with a spoonful of baking soda in water. Then apply diluted baking soda to the entire wig, especially the bottom of the wig, and let it sit for a few minutes. Finally, wash as usual to get rid of baking soda particles and dirt on the wig.
Also, baking soda can deep clean wigs. Fill a container with cold water, add a few teaspoons of baking soda, and soak the wig in this soda for 20-40 minutes before washing. Make sure to rinse off the soda, or the baking soda will leave a white residue on your wig.
6.Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is another natural neutralizer that also removes unpleasant odors from wigs.
If your wig hasn’t been used in a while and has a musty smell, you can use apple cider vinegar to get rid of those smells. Apple cider vinegar, as a natural product, won’t harm your hair, but it may lighten the color of your wig. Add a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to warm water and soak the wig. Apple cider vinegar will loosen the sebum and dirt on the wig, and it will take about an hour or so to get rid of the residual chemicals and strange smells on the wig. Then take the wig out, rinse it off with cold water as you normally do with blocks, and use some conditioner to get rid of the apple cider vinegar smell. In addition, apple cider vinegar can add shine and softness to human hair wigs.
